Missions

Our mission is to be a generous, loving, & caring community so that we may make an impact in the physical and spiritual lives of others through relationships with one another, and through knowing Jesus Christ.

Partnering with local, national, and international mission organizations, we serve in many ways using the talents of our people.

Angel Tree

During Advent the community gathers and delivers gifts on behalf of incarcerated parents.  Children receive “fun” gifts in addition to clothing gifts.  Contact us to learn more about this ministry during Advent!

Autumn Care Bingo

On the second Tuesday of each month the residents of Autumn Care nursing home gather at the church for a morning of Bingo fun.  Our mission team coordinates and assists residents in playing as well as provide an opportunity for residents to enjoy fellowship with the wider Great Bridge community.

Chesapeake Kids

By collecting, cleaning, and distributing new or slightly used books children in under-served schools throughout Chesapeake we are able to ensure that all students have the opportunity to experience a school book-fair.

C.A.S.T & N.E.S.T

In each of the homeless ministries, our church opens it’s doors for a week to provide housing, meals, and fellowship to those who are seeking shelter in the cold winter months.  Our mission team prepares food, provide transportation and overnight supervision, and prays alongside our guests.

FaithWorks

A partnership among 7 local churches, Faith Works repairs and improves homes for elderly, disabled, and under-served residents in the Tidewater region.

ForKids

The ForKids organization reaches out to the children of homeless families within Hampton Roads.  Great Bridge UMC has partnered with ForKids for missional giving over the past several years.

Get Smart

By building relationships with under-served youth Get Smart seeks to provide positive role models, academic support, and prayer for students.  Volunteers provide meals, transportation, and mentorship.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Crafted by members of the community, this mission opportunity provides shawls to those who have experienced loss, illness or surgery, and for times of praise.  This group meets twice a month to crochet and knit together.
