The class originally was named the Shook Class in honor of Clifton Shook. He and his wife, Frances, were original members. He passed away in 1979 – Frances died in 1982. The name Seekers was added within the last five years as we determined we are “seekers” of God’s direction in our lives. We range in age from the 40’s to the 80’s. We are parents and grandparents – some are great-grandparents!
Before the class actually begins, we have coffee and “goodies.” Following a social time we open with prayer – sharing blessings and concerns. We move from prayer into the lesson. Currently, the class uses Dr. J. Vernon McGee’s "Bible Study Series." We have rotation teachers with many discussions depending on the subject!
Members of the Shook Seekers are found everywhere within the church – choirs: Chancel, Sonshine, Master’s Men, bell choirs. The class participates in the Great Bridge Food Closet; hosts “coffee house;” serves meals during NEST; prepares meals for AIDS patients. The class is involved in missions supporting El Salvador students, mission trips, and more. The class has adopted a family, supplying them with food and other necessities. We support the Shoe Box Program and the Angel Tree Camp. Class members can be found on many church committees and boards.
For social gatherings, the class meets quarterly for a pot luck dinner with really good food. The Shook Seekers are a “family” – helping each other, supporting each other in times of need and rejoicing in joyous times. Jesus said, “love one another” – and the Shook Seekers take that saying to heart. One Sunday during a discussion on Noah’s Ark, one question was, “Who would you want to take on the Ark with you?” One class member responded, “our class!” We welcome anyone interested in checking us out. We are a very informal group that would love to include you “on the Ark” with us.
