Do not be afraid; for see - I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord. Luke 2:10 - 11 NRSV
Appropriately named, the Cross Generations class members include the occasional college student, young to older couples, singles, and even a grandmother. Also, if the words cross and generations are written vertically and horizontally intersecting at the “r” they make a cross, which indicates the class’s symbolic connection to the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The roster usually carries 10-15 members with less than 10 in attendance on most Sundays.
The class goal is to grow spiritually in our relationship with each other and with God through a variety of studies focused on life applications. Recent studies have included a traditional study of Genesis, "Christmas Unplugged", the "Nooma" video series and "The Jesus I Never Knew" including video segments by the author, Philip Yancey.
Our style is facilitator-led discussion with acceptance of differing opinions and ideas. Humor is welcomed! Our class also includes prayer with a current list of praises and concerns each week. Currently, the class is is using the "Liquid" series. "Liquid" is a contemporary method of Bible study, translating ancient stories into the language of today's culture. Each lesson feature a ten minute DVD "episode" followed by relevant questions for the class to discuss.
For a small group the Cross Generations class is very involved in the life and body of the church. Members have prepared many “Kits for Conference”, including baby, sewing, health, and school kits. We also host the coffee house on a regular basis, have sponsored an El Salvador student through the G.I.F.T. program, and annually prepare and serve a meal to the homeless during the NEST ministry. Some members are involved in United Methodist Women, the praise band, mission trips, and the prayer shawl ministry. We try to have occasional fellowship activities and often go out to lunch after class on Sunday.
